Just finished the Leopard install a few hours ago, so-far-so-awesome! Actual install time was approx 45 minutes, fast, painless, and easy. I’m very impressed with the features, spaces is definitely a killer app. Spaces really nails down what third part virtual desktop apps like Virtue Desktop and Desktop Manager failed at. Things like switching windows to other desktops, always opening certain applications in certain windows, and automatically switching into the desktop when a program gets tabbed into, or maximized is awesome!
Havn’t had to much time to play, but tons of little tweaks in the interface, and tons of little small fixes to menus, usability, preferences, and other things. Overall the whole OS looks and feels more integrated.
I was also impressed at how finder picked up my network PC in the sidebar and immediately allowed me to share files with it’s public folders. That was something I struggled to even do with Tiger.
If your thinking about picking it up, find a few friends and pick up the Family Pack. You can either get 5 licenses for $200 or 1 license for $125, which works out to just $40 for a new OS with 5 people. If your in Vancity goto Simply Computing and score a stuffed Leopard mascot free of charge
Also, if you’re worried about compatibility issues with your Adobe apps, so far everything runs flawlessly.
I’ll keep you posted with updates as they come, but so far everything looks rock solid. Nice work Apple.

My Leopard…
I got my paws on my copy of Leopard a few minutes before 6 p.m. at my favorite local Apple Center – I had booked my spot yesterday on the phone, and I didn’t have to elbow my way through a crowd of Apple fanboys. The actual installation started…
Are you kidding me? Leopard RUINS what the third party apps do. Why in the world would you want it to automatically switch to a different space when you click on an app?
It is now impossible to open up separate browser windows in two different spaces. It is now impossible to open up terminals in each space … you are completely restricted to working in one space with one application. Absolutely awful.
If I want to read my news articles in one space, and have blogs open in another space, that should be my decision not apple’s.
It is possible to open up multiple instances of the same application in different windows. Screen shot below.

Just hit the spaces button (default F8) and drag the window over. If your talking about how focus switches the app to it’s space, then I think that’s a good thing.
What happened in previous apps like Virtue Desktop and Desktop Manager is the application would focus and then popup whatever space your currently in. The worst is in any Adobe app as the toolbar would move to the current space and leave the document and palettes behind in the other space. I find both Virtue Desktop and Desktop Manager manage to awkwardly separate the application between the spaces.
In Spaces, when it automatically switches to the space on focus, it really helps you keep organized, which is why it’s there in the first place. Having said that if you really want two browser windows open in different spaces, just drag it over.
